Car industry: global technical regulations for wheeled vehicles, equipment and parts. Parallel Agreement UN/ECE

PURPOSE: conclusion of the Agreement concerning the establishing of global technical regulations for wheeled vehicles, equipment and parts which can be fitted and/or be used on wheeled vehicles. In a revised version of the proposal to approve the UN/ECE Parallel Agreement, the Council proposes introducing some amendments of a technical nature to the previous proposal put forward in January 1999 by the European Commission (in particular with respect to rules of procedure and the legal base concerning the Community vote following the entry into force of the Amsterdam Treaty). Amendments were also introduced regarding the provision of information to the European Parliament on the priorities of the work programme and the preparatory work of the UN/ECE (a new Annex III attached to the draft agreement covers the areas that are subject to the provision of information to the European Parliament).
