EU–Canada Agreement laying down the conditions for the participation of Canadian legal entities and products originating in Canada to procurement under the SAFE Instrument
PURPOSE: to conclude the agreement between the European Union and Canada laying down the conditions for the participation of Canadian legal entities and products originating in Canada to procurement under the SAFE Instrument.
PROPOSED ACT: Council Decision.
ROLE OF THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT: Council may adopt the act only if Parliament has given its consent to the act.
BACKGROUND: the agreement between the European Union and Canada laying down the conditions for the participation of Canadian legal entities and products originating in Canada to procurement under the SAFE instrument has been signed, subject to its conclusion at a later date, and is being applied provisionally pending its entry into force. The SAFE agreement should be approved.
CONTENT: the draft Council decision concerns the approval of the agreement between the European Union and Canada laying down the conditions for the participation of Canadian legal entities and products originating in Canada to procurement under the SAFE Instrument.
The conclusion of the SAFE agreement strengthens industrial cooperation in the field of defence and reflects the shared desire to deepen the relationship between the European Union and Canada in the security and defence realm and to foster a closer, balanced and mutually beneficial partnership between the European Union and Canada to support practical defence cooperation.
