Fishing in certain areas other than the North Atlantic: nominal catch statistics by Member States

1994/0198(CNS)

The Council adopted the Regulation on the submission of nominal catch statistics by Member States fishing in certain areas other than those of the North Atlantic. The purpose of the Regulation is to establish a legal basis enabling the Commission to coordinate the necessary harmonisation of statistical information at Community level, whilst leaving the collection, processing and monitoring of fisheries statistics to the Member States. The statistics on nominal catches made by Member States in waters other than the North Atlantic are necessary to enable the Community to fulfil its obligations as a member of international organisations such as the FAO, and to contribute to the management of fishery resources in the waters in question.
