Exploitation and marketing of natural mineral waters

The rapporteur announced the conclusion of an agreement on the use of ozone-enriched air subject to strict conditions. He proposed that the Directive should also ensure that the process used for treating mineral water was indicated on the labels; however, he was opposed to laying down a maximum capacity for bottles of water as that was a decision that should be made by the Member States or by consumers themselves. Commissioner BANGEMANN stated that he could take over Amendments Nos 1, 4, 7, 8, 9 and 11. At present, Amendments Nos 2, 3, 6 and 13 were not acceptable, but a short-term solution could be envisaged.
