Noise emitted by pneumatic tyres of motor vehicles and trailers
1997/0348(COD)
The Conciliation Committee reached agreement on a joint text for the proposal for a directive. The two delegations had asked the Commission to produce a compromise text covering a number of points (decibel values, width of tyres, old and new tyres, safety tests). The resulting agreement provided for indicative reductions of noise thresholds of 1 or 2 decibels. The definitive figures would depend on the amendment of the directive which the Commission was invited to propose within 12 months of drawing up a report (to be submitted within 36 months of the entry into force of the directive) on how far technical progress would allow the introduction of new limit values without compromising safety. The amended directive would incorporate new provisions relating to safety, environmental and rolling resistance aspects.
