Schengen: second generation information system SIS II, development. Initiative Belgium and Sweden

PURPOSE : the development of the second generation Schengen Information System (SIS II). COMMUNITY MEASURE : Council Decision 2001/886/JHA. CONTENT : This decision constitutes, together with Council Regulation 2001/2424/EC (CNS010818), the required legislative basis to allow for the inclusion in the budget of the Union of the necessary appropriations for the development of SIS II and the execution of that part of the budget. The current Schengen Information System will be replaced SIS II, which will allow for new Member States to be incorporated into the system. The SIS II, in spite of the two instruments forming the legislative basis, is one single integrated system, to be developed by the Commission in accordance with the management procedure described in the Decision, except in specified matters where measures will be taken in accordance with the regulatory procedure.
