Euro: protection against counterfeiting. Initiative France

PURPOSE : French Initiative on the protection of the euro against counterfeiting. COMMUNITY MEASURE : Council Decision 2001/887/JHA on the protection of the euro against counterfeiting. CONTENT : This Decision provides that Member States will ensure, in the context of investigations into counterfeiting, that expert analyses of suspect notes are carried out by a National Analysis Centre, and expert analyses of suspect coins are carried out by a Coin National Analysis Centre. The results of the analyses must be sent to Europol. Member States are under an obligation to provide information on offences and investigations relating to the euro. This information must include at least the particulars of the persons involved, the offences, the circumstances under which the offences were discovered, the context of the seizure and links with other cases. The competent authorities will make use of facilities offered by the Provisional Judicial Cooperation Unit and Eurojust. ENTRY INTO FORCE : 14/12/01.�
