Animal nutrition: undesirable substances and products. Codification
1995/0299(CNS)
PURPOSE : to set maximum levels for dioxins and furans in animal nutrition.
COMMUNITY MEASURE : Council Directive 2001/102/EC amending Directive 1999/29/EC on the undesirable substances and products on animal nutrition.
CONTENT : Maximum levels for dioxins and dioxin like PCBs is an appropriate tool for preventing unacceptably high exposure of animals and to prevent the distribution of feedingstuffs with an unacceptably high level of contamination. The setting of maximum levels is indispensable for the implementation of a regulatory control system and to ensure uniform application. For the time being maximum levels are not set for dioxin-like PCBs, given the very limited data available on the prevalence of the latter, but this will be reviewed by 31 December 2004. The Annex to this Directive sets the maximum levels for dioxins and furans, and provides that the levels will be further reviewed by 31 December 2006 with the aim of significantly reducing the maximum levels.
DATE FOR TRANSPOSITION : 1 July 2002.
ENTRY INTO FORCE : 10 January 2002.
