Sugars intended for human consumption

PURPOSE : to establish certain rules on sugars for human consumption. COMMUNITY MEASURE : Council Directive 2001/111/EC relating to certain sugars intended for human consumption. CONTENT : The purpose of this Directive is to establish the rules on manufacturing and marketing conditions relating to certain sugars intended for human consumption. The Directive applies to sugar products defined in the Annex, but do not apply when those products take the form of icing sugars, candy sugars, sugars in loaf form. Directive 2009/13/EC on labelling applies to the products within the scope of this Directive, with certain exceptions. Member States may not adopt national provisions not provided for by this directive. The measures shall be applied so as to: - authorise the marketing of products in the Annex if they conform to the definitions and rules of this Directive, with effect from 12 July 2003. - prohibit the marketing of products which fail to conform to this Directive, with effect from 12 July 2004.
