Transport of dangerous goods by road: uniform procedures for checks

PURPOSE : Commission proposal to amend Directive 95/50/EC on the transport of dangerous goods by road in the light of technical progress. CONTENT : Council Directive 94/55/EC introduced uniform rules for the transportation of dangerous goods by road. Annex A lists the dangerous goods that may be carried and gives rules for packaging and labelling. Annex B lays down rules for the vehicles. Directive 95/50/EC on uniform procedures for checks on the transport of dangerous goods by road includes a harmonised checklist, as well as a harmonised list of infringements. The Annexes are related to the Annexes of Directive 94/55/EC in such a way that adaptation to scientific progress of Annexes to 94/55/EC may affect the Annexes to Directive 95/50/EC. In addition, the adaptation to technical and scientific progress in Directive 94/55/EC is made using a Committee procedure. There is no committee procedure in Directive 95/50/EC. This proposal a) amends Directive 95/50/EC to take into account the latest adaptation to technical progress in Directive 94/55/EC b) introduces a committee procedure into the Directive in order to guarantee coherence on technical progress in this area.�
