EAGGF: measures relating to German reunification. Special report 4/97 Court of Auditors

The Committee has unanimously adopted the report by Salvador GARRIGA POLLEDO on the Court of Auditors Special Report 4/97 concerning an audit of German reunification measures involving EAGGF funds. In its resolution the committee praises the Community's contribution to the integration of the new Länder (the former GDR) into the common agricultural policy in what were exceptional circumstances. It points out that this process - with a reduction in milk and beef production and the eradication of enzootic bovine leucosis - was achieved without substantial additional expense for the Community budget. However, the committee criticises the Commission's delays in carrying out financial checks/ of programmes co-funded by the EU and calls for certain sums which were unduly paid to be recovered.�
