Freedom to supply services and workers' rights: posting of workers

1991/0346(COD)
The common position, which was adopted by the Council in June, five years after the initial proposal from the European Commission, takes full account of Parliament's views. It was approved by the committee without amendment. The aim is to eliminate unfair competition by ensuring that "posted" workers do not receive lower wages and are not subject to less favourable working conditions than workers in the member state concerned. At issue was the time period before the new rules apply. Exceptions are to be allowed for certain temporary work of up to one month and where the amount of work involved is insignificant.
