Social security: coordination of the national systems to promote the free movement of persons (repeal. Regulation (EEC) No 1408/71)
1998/0360(COD)
The committee adopted the report by Jean LAMBERT (Greens/EFA, UK) broadly approving the Council's common position under the 2nd reading of the codecision procedure, subject to two minor amendments. One of these aimed to ensure that, with regard to benefits in kind, the qualifying period prior to retirement should be the same for both the frontier worker and his survivors, i.e. two years, whereas the common position was proposing that the worker's survivors should be entitled to such benefits only if he had been working for three years.
