Development of trans-European networks in the energy sector

1994/0010(SYN)
The report by Mr Gordon ADAM (PSE, UK) adopted by the committee follows on from the same rapporteur's analysis on the subject of the overall guidelines relating to trans-European networks, in which the European Parliament is involved under the codecision procedure. In its amendments, the Committee on Energy stressed the need to establish the framework for a common energy strategy specifying the EU's criteria and objectives in this area and defining how the energy market is to be liberalised. It voted in favour of giving priority to networks which bolstered economic and social cohesion, taking account of economic, social and technical factors within the context of the viability of the project. Finally, it called for the Commission to be assisted by an advisory committee.
