Trans-European energy networks: guidelines

1994/0009(COD)
The committee adopted the report by Mr ADAM. The Committee on Research, Technological Development and Energy reiterated the undeniable link between the policy on networks and a common EU energy policy. It underlined that the choice of projects of common interest on the basis of economic viability (according to the Council's position) should not mean that the criteria relating to social and technical improvements were not taken into account during the design, development and completion of networks since these measures encouraged integration and cohesion. The Committee on Research included an amendment on comitology reminding the Commission of its duty to inform the EP at the same time as the committee. It stressed that the EP should be consulted on the basis of Article 129c of the Treaty should the list of priority projects be revised. The committee also proposed changes relating to the electricity networks surrounding the Baltic and the Baltic and Nordic gas distribution network.
