Exploitation and marketing of natural mineral waters

The committee adopted a draft recommendation by Mr Karl-Heinz FLORENZ. The recommendation concerned the common position adopted by the Council on 22 December 1995. The rapporteur proposed no amendments to the common position on the grounds that, as he told the committee, most of Parliament's wishes had been taken on board by the Council. The Council had, in fact, accepted 5 of the 7 amendments adopted by Parliament at its first reading of the proposal. One of the first reading amendments accepted by Council involved rewording of the proposal so that it refers to "spring waters" as well as mineral waters. Two amendments (1 and 4) - tabled by members other than the rapporteur - were adopted by the committee on 15 April. These extended the reference to "spring waters".
