Integration fisheries-environment, ministerial meeting, March 1997, Bergen. 2nd report on implementation

The committee adopted the report by Daniel VARELA SUANZES-CARPEGNA (EPP/ED, E) on the integration of fisheries and environmental issues. The report called on the Council to consider setting total allowable catches (TACs) for certain species. It called on the Commission to put forward initiatives to establish a system for penalising infringements of fishing regulations and to continue the programme of exchanges of fisheries inspectors. Lastly, it urged the Member States to make every effort to set up the Community network of protected areas known as Nature 2000.�
