Rules and arrangements for structural assistance in the fisheries sector: maximum rates of assistance

The committee adopted the report by Bernard POIGNANT (PES, F) amending the proposal under the consultation procedure. It disagreed with the Commission's view that there was no need to increase the rate of Community assistance or decrease the rate of private self-financing for fleet renewal and modernisation of fishing vessels in the outermost regions, and therefore adopted an amendment adjusting the rates for Group 2. The committee also said that Article 299(2) of the Treaty, providing for specific measures for the outermost regions, should be used as the legal basis as well as Article 37.�
