Development of trans-European networks in the energy sector

The proposal for a Council decision sought to eliminate legal, technical, administrative and financial obstacles to the development of trans-European energy networks. To that end the Community needed to promote: - technical cooperation projects between operators responsible for the management, supervision and regulation of trans-European energy networks; - cooperation amongst Member States to simplify and speed up the procedures for authorising network projects and shorten the time frames for their completion; - definition of a common approach to the technical aspects of networks. Financial support was possible in the form of loan guarantees or interest subsidies for feasibility studies of projects of common interest or projects aimed at improving technical cooperation in the exploitation of trans-European energy networks.�
