Car industry: compressed natural gas propulsion systems CNG, UN/ECE Regulation

The Committee has adopted the recommendation by Peter KITTELMANN (EPP, D) on the on the proposal for a Council Decision on the position of the European Community on the draft Regulation of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe concerning the approval of specific components of motor vehicles using compressed natural gas (CNG) in their propulsion systems and of vehicles with regard to the installation of specific components of an approved type for the use of compressed natural gas (CNG) in their propulsion systems. This Regulation concerns technical standards for motor vehicles running on compressed natural gas (CNG) and for specific components thereof. It is intended that these standards, which are set out in detail in the Commission proposal, will be incorporated in the EU type-approval system after they have been adopted by the ECE and will thus supplement the Community legislation in force.�
