Setting up a Translation Centre for bodies of the European Union
1994/0071(CNS)
The Commission's amended proposal took over two of the twelve amendments tabled by the European Parliament. It accepted only those amendments concerning:
- the introduction of a provision aimed at ensuring that the Centre received technical assistance from the Commission, namely the provision of support services for the Centre (terminology, databases, documentation, machine translation, training, freelance databases, secondment of officials) and the administration of general services (payment of salaries, sickness fund, pensions, etc.);
- the review of the operating rules by the Council, on the basis of a Commission proposal and after obtaining the European Parliament's opinion, at the latest three years from the end of the Centre's starting-up period, which should not exceed three budgetary years.
