EC/Kyrgyzstan Interim Agreement on trade and trade-related matters

OBJECTIVE: to conclude an interim agreement between the European Communities and Kyrghyzstan on trade and trade-related matters pending the entry into force of the partnership agreement between the EC and Kyrghyzstan. SUBSTANCE: Pending the entry into force of the partnership and cooperation agreement concluded between the Community and Kyrghyzstan, as signed in Brussels on 09.02.1995, an interim agreement is provided which seeks to apply, on a provisional basis, the trade and trade-related section of this general partnership agreement. The present agreement, which was initialled in Brussels on 29.09.1994, will apply until the final entry into force of the main cooperation and partnership agreement. This interim agreement suspends the commercial sections of the trade and commercial and economic agreement, which was concluded between the European Community and the USSR in 1989, insofar as these refer specifically to Kyrghyzstan. The present agreement is concluded by the Council on behalf of the Community, after consultation with Parliament (in accordance with Articles 113, in conjunction with Article 228 (second paragraph, first sentence) of the Treaty on European Union). �
