Additional costs incurred in the marketing of certain fishery products from very remote regions
1994/0255(CNS)
The Commission's amended proposal took over the European Parliament's amendments relating to the following aspects:
- the introduction of a reference to the Declaration on the outermost regions of the Community, annexed to the Treaty on European Union;
- a reminder of the social and economic importance of small-scale and coastal fishing in these regions;
- the need to rationalise the fishing effort with a view to ensuring sound management of stocks, and taking particular account of the study carried out to this end by various scientific institutions in the outermost regions (without mentioning the names of any specific institutions);
- the possibility of using tuna from other Member States if the total annual quota of 15 000 tonnes was not used up;
- the introduction of an article identifying the beneficiaries of the system;
- the inclusion of the Committee of the Regions and Economic and Social Committee among the bodies that should receive the Commission report.
The other EP amendments were rejected.
