Beef and veal sector: additional measures for direct support of producers' incomes

OBJECTIVE : to grant additional aid to the beef and veal sector because of the continuing serious difficulties. SUBSTANCE: at its meeting of 28-30 September 1996, the Council agreed a package of urgent measures in the beef and veal sector and considered that the continuing serious difficulties in the beef sector justified additional measures for direct support of producers' incomes or for the beef and veal sector amounting to ECU 500 m . The proposal for a Regulation formalizes the compromise for the provision of the ECU 500 m support package, giving Member States the fullest freedom to spend their part of this aid either to support producers' incomes or the beef and veal sector in their territory. �
