Collective redundancies

OBJECTIVE: To propose a new version of the official consolidation of Council Directive 75/129/EEC on the approximation of the laws of the Member States relating to collective redundancies. CONTENT: The new version of the consolidation of Directive 75/129/EEC preserves the entire substance of the consolidated texts and is confined to regrouping them and introducing the formal amendments required by the actual operation of consolidation. An initial version of this consolidated text had already been proposed on 29 November 1996 (COM(96)620) and had been the subject of a first consultation before the European Parliament on 13 May 1997. Having regard to the results of the Council's work on this proposal, the Commission is presenting, pursuant to Article 189A(2) of the Treaty, a new proposal for consolidation of the Directive in question. This 'amended' proposal again takes into account certain purely editorial or formal adaptations suggested by the Consultative Working Party of the legal services envisaged by the Interinstitutional Agreement of 20 December 1994 on an accelerated working method for official codification of legislative texts, which have proved to be well founded.�
