Conservation of fishery resources: protection of juveniles of marine organisms

OBJECTIVE: to amend Regulation (EC) No 850/98 on the protection of juveniles of marine organisms, so as to correct various editorial inadequacies in the Regulation. SUBSTANCE: On 30 March 1998, the Council adopted Regulation (EC) No 850/98 for the conservation of fishery resources through technical measures for the protection of juveniles of marine organisms. After the Regulation was adopted and published, it soon became apparent that this lengthy and technically complicated piece of legislation exhibited a number of omissions, textual errors and editorial inadequacies. The proposal seeks to remedy these imperfections (in particular, it redefines the fishing limits of certain Member States and revises the method laid down for determining the size of a spinous spider crab).�
