Development of trans-European networks in the energy sector

OBJECTIVE: To remove the legal, technical, administrative and financial barriers to development of trans-European energy networks. COMMUNITY MEASURE: Council Decision laying down a series of measures aimed at creating a more favourable context for the development of trans-European networks in the energy sector. SUBSTANCE: The Decision identifies the action to be taken with a view to creating a more favourable context for the implementation of projets of common interest in connection with trans-energy networks and for the interoperability of such networks on a Community-wide scale. To this end, the Community intends to promote: - the implementation of technical cooperation projects between the operators responsible for the management, control and regulation of trans-European energy networks; - cooperation between Member States with a view to simplifying and speeding up the authorization procedures for network projets, in order to reduce delays. The Community may provide financial support in the form of loan guarantees or interest-rate subsidies in connection with feasibility studies into projects of common interest or projects designed to improve technical cooperation in the operation of trans-European energy networks.
