Food additives other than colours and sweeteners

In its first reading under the codecision procedure, the European Parliament confirmed its vote of 26 May 1993. It tabled amendments on: establishing that only additives complying with the specifications adopted by the Scientific Committee for Food could be used in foodstuffs; explaining the concept of 'quantum satis' in greater detail; requesting the Member States to establish systems to monitor the consumption and use of additives; providing for the Scientific Committee for Food to re-examine all additives at regular intervals on the basis of the most up-to-date scientific knowledge; amending the annexes to the proposal. �
