Community system for fishing licences
1993/1038(CNS)
Parliament tabled amendments seeking to amend the title of the proposal, given that it concerned 'the minimum information' which had to be included in fishing licences. It considered that the fishing licence had to be regarded as an accreditation document suitable for different types of fishing, containing, amongst other information, the infringements of fishing legislation recorded on the rear and, in the case of withdrawal of the licence, if this resulted from an administrative decision or criminal proceedings. The European Parliament also called for that licence to be kept on board the vessel. As regards the information transmitted by the Member States to the Commission, the European Parliament fixed 30 June 1995 as the time-limit for the completion by the flag State of the records on licences granted. Lastly, Parliament considered that the Commission had to carry out appropriate checks if a third country decided to withdraw a licence from a Community vessel and, on the other hand, had to make a response where a Member State addressed a request for information to it.
