Beef and veal sector: additional measures for direct support of producers' incomes

OBJECTIVE: because of the difficulties created by the BSE crisis, to adopt additional measures for direct support of producers' incomes or for the beef and veal sector. COMMUNITY MEASURE : Council Regulation (EC) No 2443/96. SUBSTANCE : at its meeting of 28-30 September 1996, the Council agreed a package of urgent measures in the beef and veal sector and considered that the continuing serious difficulties in the beef sector justified additional measures for direct support of producers' incomes or for the beef and veal sector amounting to ECU 500 m to be distributed among the Member States according to an agreed key. The Regulation formalizes this compromise, giving Member States flexibility in the way they utilize their part of this aid. DATE OF ENTRY INTO FORCE : 21 December 1996. �
