Social security: employed persons, self-employed persons and their families (amend. Regul. 1408/71/EEC, 574/72/EEC)
1997/0201(CNS)
Adopting the report by Mrs Ria OOMEN-RUIJTEN (PPE, NL), the
European Parliament confirmed the amendments proposed by the plenary
on 31 March 1998 modifying the basic regulation on social security
for migrant workers, following referral back to committee.
For the record, these amendments seek to:
- extend the field of application of this regulation to employed and
self-employed persons and students and the members of their families
subject to the legislation of a Member State who are nationals
of one Member State or are stateless or refugees;
- provide that retired former frontier workers and members of their families
can benefit from social security entitlements in their country of residence.
