Agricultural prices 1996/1997: flax and hemp, common organisation of the market COM

In adopting the report by Mr Giacomo SANTINI (UPE, I), the European Parliament called for measures to encourage the use of agricultural products for non-food purposes since fibre plants were especially suitable for this purpose. Moreover, it proposed increasing the maximum guaranteed area from 81 500 hectares (Commission proposal) to 103 000 hectares and modifying the system for reducing aid where the MGA was exceeded by applying additional reductions in the Member States concerned. �
