Translation Centre for bodies of the European Union: scope of services

1995/0099(CNS)
Parliament approved the proposal for a regulation with the following amendments: - the aim of setting up the Translation Centre was to create a body which would play an integral part in interinstitutional collaboration on translation matters in order to avoid the development of a parallel structure of collaboration between the institutions' translation services and in this way to be able to make direct use of the services of the Centre in the medium term; - the Centre would be involved as a member by right in the work of the Interinstitutional Translation Committee in all areas involving collaboration so that, eventually, it would be in a position to carry out those activities whose consolidation will have been agreed between the institutions and bodies concerned; - the Centre will be able to conclude collaboration agreements with the institutions' translation services on the basis of reciprocity; - as regards financing, during the Centre's starting-up period its revenue will come both from payments made by those bodies for which it works and from the institutions with which it has set up a system of collaboration. This financial contribution is to be paid on a flat-rate basis at the beginning of the year and will be drawn from the budgets of each institution and/or body as a function of the work which has actually been carried out.
