Environment : effects of public and private projects (amend. Directive 85/337/EEC)
1994/0078(SYN)
Parliament adopted the recommendation for second reading by Mr Paul LANNOYE (Greens, B)
with a view to adopting the amendment of Directive 85/337/EEC on the assessment of the effects
of certain public and private projects on the environment, rejecting most of the amendments
proposed by the Committee on the Environment.
However, Parliament proposed that:
- the Directive should also concern the assessment of the environmental effects of Community or
national programmes which are likely to have significant effects on the environment;
- projects for thermal power stations and other combustion installations with a heat output of
100 megawatts or more should be made subject to obligatory assessment,
- that there should be better consultation of the public before projects are authorized.
