Aid for policies and actions on reproductive and sexual health and rights in developing countries

The European Parliament adopted a resolution based on the report by Ulla Magrethe SANDBAEK (EDD, Denmark) making several amendments to the Commission's proposal. (Please refer to the document dated 21/01/03). The following amendments were also made:
- a new part recital states that the Community and its Member States maintain their commitment to the specific reproductive health goal that was agreed at the International Conference on Population and Development in 1994 (ICPD), to make accessible through the primary health care system, reproductive health care to all individuals of appropriate ages as soon as possible and no later than 2015;
- experience shows that population and development programmes are most effective when steps have been taken to improve the status of women;
- the importance of a holistic approach to sexual health is emphasised;
- for decisions and changes to operations amounting to EUR 3 million or less (rather than EUR 5 million or less) the Commission will inform the Member States.�
