Common organisation of the markets in processed fruit and vegetable products: additional quota to Portugal for 1999/2000 and 2000/2001

The Parliament adopted its report drafted by Ms. Maria del Pilar AYUSO GONZALEZ (EPP, E). There were three amendments: - a new recital which makes reference to the desirability to revise the existing quota regime to make it more flexible and permit closer adaptation to production conditions and market needs; - a new recital stating that the existing total amount payable in aid to processing is not sufficient to cover market demand and needs to be increased in line with the steady increase in consumption; - the Commission is to submit to the Council and the European Parliament, before the start of the next marketing year, proposals for setting up a system of guarantee thresholds by Member State, with a view to boosting the competitiveness and adaptability of the Community industry in the context of the evolution of market and consumer demand, without harming the relative internal stability of the sector.�
