Milk and milk products: additional levy (amend. Regulation (EEC) No 3950/92)

PURPOSE : to amend the provisions on levy arrangements in the milk sector in relation to Madeira. COMMUNITY MEASURE : Council Regulation 2028/2002/EC amending Regulation 3950/92/EEC establishing an additional levy in the milk and milk products sector. CONTENT : the adopted Regulation, the Portuguese delegation voting against, exempts Madeira. From this system in order to permit the maintenance of traditional dairy farming in Madeira. Therefore, Regulation 3950/92/EEC must not, within the limits of local production, apply to Madeira. The latter Regulation sets the reference quantities applicable in each Member State. The exemption does not affect application of the levy arrangements for Portugal. The reference quantity for Portugal is therefore reduced by an amount equal to that of the quantities available to producers in Madeira. The exemption must be restricted to 4000 tonnes : the 2000 tonnes of present production plus a further 2000 tonnes estimated as the maximum reasonable production increase. The Annex to the Regulation is accordingly amended. DATE OF APPLICATION : 01/04/01. ENTRY INTO FORCE : 19/11/02.�
