European Central Bank, ECB: collection of statistical information

PURPOSE: the collection of statistical information by the European Central Bank. COMMUNITY MEASURE: Council Regulation 2533/98/EC concerning the collection of statistical information by the European Central Bank. CONTENT: The Regulation concerns the manner in which the definitions and procedures governing the collection of statistical information by the ECB are to be structured so that it has the ability and flexibility to avail itself in a timely manner of high-quality statistics which reflect changing economic and financial conditions, and take account of the burden imposed on reporting agents. The most notable aspects of the Regulation are the following: - reference reporting population; - modalities for the definition of statistical reporting requirements; - obligations of Member States; - regulatory power of the ECB; - right of verification and compulsory collection of statistical information; - imposition of sanctions; - confidentiality regime.
