CONTENT : adoption of the Fifth Framework Programme of the European Atomic Energy Community (EURATOM) for research and training activities (1998-2002). COMMUNITY MEASURE : Decision 1999/64/EURATOM. CONTENT : The Euratom Fifth Framework Programme for the 1998-2002 period covers the area of controlled thermonuclear fusion and energy systems related to nuclear fission, as well as that of industrial and medical uses of radiation and natural sources of radiation. These areas include, in addition to the thematic aspects, horizontal aspects concerning co-operation with third countries and international organisations, the dissemination and exploitation of results of research and training activities, and the stimulation of the training and mobility of Community researchers. The financial reference amount for the implementation of the programme for the 1998-2002 period is EUR 1260 million, of which EUR 788 million shall be for controlled thermonuclear fusion and EUR 281 million for the JRC. In view of the expiry of the current financial perspective at the end of 1999, the overall amount will be broken down between the first and second phase of the framework programme: EUR 310 million for the period 1998-1999 and EUR 950 million for the period 2000-2002. The Council will take a new decision if the overall amount appears to be incompatible with the new financial perspectives for the years 2000-2002, or in the absence of financial perspectives.
