Legal units of measurement of the Système international SI, supplementary after 31/12/1999 (amend. Directive 80/181/EEC)

PURPOSE: to amend Council Directive 80/181/EEC on the approximation of the laws of the Member States relating to units of measurement. COMMUNITY MEASURE: Directive 1999/103/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council. CONTENT: the amendments introduced by the Council concern two aspects : - on the one hand, the text of the Council Directive 80/181/EEC should be brought into line with the international agreements and standards of the Conférence générale des poids et mesures (1991) and The International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO); - on the other hand, the extension of the deadline for the use of the supplementary indications in non-legal units until 31/12/2009. The Commission shall re-examine the application of the Directive, and, if necessary adopt the appropiate measures in accordance with the procedure referred to in Article 18 of Council Directive 71/316/EEC (the framework directive for legal metrology questions).
