Conservation of fishery resources: protection of juveniles of marine organisms

PURPOSE : to amend Regulation 850/98/EC on the protection of juveniles of marine organisms in order to reinforce certain technical control measures. COMMUNITY MEASURE : Council Regulation 2723/1999/EC amending Regulation 850/98/EC for the conservation of fishery resources through technical measures for the protection of juveniles of marine organisms. CONTENT : this Regulation aims to amend Regulation 850/98/EC on the conservation of fishery resources by introducing 4 specific amendments : - the change of the area and time-period aiming to protect the Douglas Bank herring stock during the spawning period; - the introduction of specific measures concerning the use of the Danish Seine in the trawling of plaice ; - the introduction of the authorisation to use purse seines on schools of fish found in association with marine mammals ; such use would be acceptable in the case of fishing vessels operating under the conditions agreed within the Agreement for the International Dolphin Conservation Programme ; - the revision of the mesh sizes categories for two species of spotted dogfish. This Regulation will enter into force on 29.12.1999. It shall apply from 01.01.2000. �
