Fight against cross-border vehicle crime. Initiative Netherlands

The European Parliament adopted a resolution based on the draft by Carlos COELHO (EPP-ED, Portugal), approving the Commission's proposal subject to some amendments:

- contact points are authorised to exchange experience, expertise and technical information concerning vehicle crime on the basis of existing legislation. Exchange of information shall extend to best practice and shall not include exchange of personal data;

- a new recital states that theCommission should devise a comprehensive plan of action to prevent and combat international vehicle crime involving vehicles and their loads. This plan should contain an outline of the various legislative acts necessary to address the problem;

- Parliament deleted provisions on: entering a stolen vehicle alert in the Schengen Information System

(SIS) in Interpol's ASF/Stolen Motor Vehicle System; registration; keeping Europol informed and arrangements with third countries.
