Civil protection: extension of the Community action programme

PURPOSE : to amend Decision 1999/847/EC as regards the extension of the

Community action programme in the field of civil protection.

LEGISLATIVE ACT : Council Decision 2005/12/EC amending Decision 1999/847/EC as regards the extension of the Community action programme in the field of civil protection.

CONTENT : recent emergencies such as the floods in southern France in 2002, the heat wave and extensive forest fires in southern Europe in the summer of 2003 as well as the terrorist attack in

Madrid in 2004, the earthquake in Algeria, Iran and Morocco show that there is a need to continue the action undertaken in the field of civil protection.

This Decision extends, for a period of 2 years until December 2006, the current Community action programme in the field of civil protection which expires on 31 December 2004.

The financial reference amount for the implementation of the programme shall be EUR 4,0 million for the period 1 January 2005 to 31 December 2006.
