Europol: adjusting the basic salaries and allowances applicable to staff as from July 2004. Initiative Luxembourg

2005/0803(CNS)

The committee adopted the report by Claude MORAES (PES, UK) rejecting the initiative under the consultation procedure. Although it was in favour of the development of Europol as part of the EU's policy on combating international crime, the committee said that Europol was currently operating without sufficient democratic control at both national and international levels. It looked forward to Europol being fully integrated into the EU system once the Constitutional Treaty had entered into force. In the meantime, the lack of information available to Parliament made it impossible to assess "the relevance and adequacy of the proposed decision", and the committee therefore rejected the initiative.
