Fight against terrorisme: exchange of information and intelligence concerning terrorist offences

2005/2046(INI)

The committee adopted the own-initiative report by Antoine DUQUESNE (ALDE, BE) on the exchange of information and intelligence concerning terrorist offences. It formulated a number of recommendations to the Council proposing to combat terror in a more proactive manner through a systematic and coordinated approach. The report called on the Council to adopt a handbook of good practice for police officers, with fundamental principles guiding the exchange of information, and to establish an instrument to facilitate the transfer of intelligence. Rules on data protection should be harmonised, in line with the principles set out in the Hague Programme, and genuine priority should be given to the prompt establishment of a European register of criminal convictions.
