Budgetary discipline: mobilisation of the flexibility instrument for the rehabilitation and the reconstruction following the tsunami disaster

The European Parliament adopted a resolution drafted by Reimer BÖGE (EPP-ED, DE) and agreed to mobilise the flexibility instrument to complement the financing in the 2006 budget of:

• the rehabilitation and reconstruction of Iraq for an amount of EUR 100 million;
• the rehabilitation and reconstruction assistance to Tsunami-affected countries for an amount of EUR 95 million;

§         the Sugar protocol countries affected by the reform of the EU sugar regime during 2006 for an amount of EUR 40 million, and

• the Common Foreign and Security Policy for an amount of EUR 40 million.

Accordingly, for the 2006 budget, the flexibility instrument shall be used to provide the sum of EUR 275 million in commitment appropriations.
