Alcoholic beverages: temporary quantitative restrictions of excise duty beer imports into Finland till 31 December 2006 (amend. Directive 69/169/EEC)

PURPOSE: to prolong the temporary quantitative restriction on beer imports into Finland.

LEGISLATIVE ACT: Council Directive 2005/93/EC amending Directive 69/169/EC as regards the temporary quantitative restrictions on beer imports into Finland.

CONTENT: in amending Directive 69/169/EC, Finland will be allowed to derogate from Article 4(1), until 31 December 2007. This will allow it to apply a maximum quantitative limit of not less than 16 litres of imported beer per person, from third countries. This measure has been adopted in order to alleviate pressure on Finnish border retailers and to help lessen problems in relation to alcohol, social and health policies.
