Water policy, pollution: quality of waters capable of supporting freshwater fish (repeal. Directive 78/659/EEC). Codification

PURPOSE: legislative codification.

LEGISLATIVE ACT: Directive 2006/0044/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council on the quality of fresh waters needing protection or improvement in order to support fish life.

CONTENT: since Directive 78/659/EEC on the quality of fresh waters needing protection or improvement in order to support fish life has been significantly amended on several occasions, in the interests of clarity and rationality, it has been codified. The new Directive supersedes the various acts incorporated in it. It fully preserves the content of the acts being codified and hence does no more than bring them together with only such formal amendments as are required by the codification exercise itself. Directive 78/659/EEC is now repealed.
