Labour Force Survey: introduce wages from the main job as a compulsory variable

In adopting the report, at first reading, drafted under the codecision procedure by Mr. Jan ANDERSSON (PES, SE), the Committee on Employment and Social Affairs approved amendments to the report amending Council Regulation (EC) No 577/98 on the organisation of a labour force sample survey in the Community.

The main amendments put forward by the committee are as follows:

- the measures necessary for the implementation of Council Regulation (EC) No 577/98 on the organisation of a labour force sample survey in the Community should be adopted in accordance with Council Decision 1999/468/EC of 28 June 1999 laying down the procedures for the exercise of implementing powers conferred on the Commission;

- a programme of ad hoc modules covering several years shall be laid down annually in accordance with the regulatory procedure specified in Article 8(2);

- the definitions, edits to be used, codification of variables, adjustment of the list of survey variables made necessary by the evolution of techniques and concepts, and a list of principles for the formulation of the questions concerning the labour status, shall be laid down in accordance with the regulatory procedure specified in Article 8(2);

- data corresponding to the survey characteristic 'wages from the main job' can be forwarded to Eurostat within 21 months of the end of the reference period when administrative data are used to supply this information.
