EEC/San Marino agreement: cooperation and customs union, protocol after the accession of the Republic of Bulgaria and Romania
PURPOSE: to amend the EU/San Marino Co-operation and Customs Union Agreement, to take account of Bulgarian and Romanian accession to the EU.
PROPOSED ACT: Council Decision.
CONTENT: on 1 April 2002 the EU - San Marino “Agreement on Co-operation and Customs Union” entered into force (CNS/1991/1261). The Agreement now has to be amended to include the new Member States (Bulgaria and Romania) as contracting parties. Negotiations between the European Commission and authorities in the Republic of San Marino on the adaptation of the Agreement are now concluded. At the same time, and in accordance with proscribed procedures, the Commission is submitting a draft of the Protocol to the Council for conclusion.
The purpose of this proposal, therefore, is to seek Council approval to adopt the revised Agreement and attached Decision on the conclusion of a Protocol to the Agreement on Co-operation and Customs Union between the Community and the Republic of San Marino.
